Ryan Pratt didn’t initially set out to solve a problem that frustrates many in the tech industry and beyond.
The founder and CEO of Guerilla RF simply wanted to keep his young family in the Triad area of North Carolina after his early 2013 lay off from Skyworks, a local semiconductor manufacturer.
Since his only job offers came from well outside the Triad, where Pratt grew up, he began to tinker in his chosen field of integrated circuit design, attempting to generate product ideas for his own business. Pratt brainstormed, bounced ideas off mentors and former colleagues, and pondered known issues that vexed the semiconductor industry.

Guerrilla RF, Inc., a leading provider of high performance MMICs, announces the introduction of two new families of broadband low noise amplifiers. These low noise, linear gain blocks have been designed for small cell, wireless infrastructure and high performance general purpose applications. The devices exhibit outstanding RF performance over multiple GHz bandwidths with little or no external RF matching, delivering excellent NF and linearity over supply voltages ranging from 1.8 to 5.0 volts. Bias currents can be set independently from Vdd, allowing a linear solution with optimal efficiency. These amplifiers are suitable for applications requiring 1st/2nd LNA or as linear transmit drivers. The GRF350x family is offered in an industry standard SOT-89 package, while the GRF400x family is available in a 6-pin DFN package (1.5mm x 1.5mm).
Today, Guerrilla RF, Inc., a leading provider of high performance MMICs, is pleased to announce the introduction of our family of 5GHz low noise amplifiers. The GRF25xx family is a series of ultra-low noise amplifiers (LNAs) designed for IEEE 802.11a/n/ac applications in the 5GHz band (4.9GHz to 5.95GHz). These devices exhibit best-inclass noise figures (NFs) as low as 0.6 dB across the band, along with excellent gain and high linearity. Furthermore, they can be biased with Vdd from 2.7 to 5.0 volts

RF Micro Devices, the wireless chip maker that has grown into a key supplier to the cell phone industry over the past two decades, has had its ups and downs in terms of hiring and downsizing. But nobody in Greensboro would say they wouldn’t love another 1,000-plus-employee international technology firm in town.
Maybe the city will get one in the form of Guerrilla RF, a wireless tech startup that claimed a $50,000 grant in the latest NC IDEA entrepreneurship competition. Guerrilla RF has developed patent-pending new technology it says significantly increases the capacity of wireless networks, and it will use the grant funding to develop its prototypes.
